Research overview

Ipamorelin was described in 1998 by researchers at Novo Nordisk as the first selective growth hormone secretagogue. In rat pituitary cell and in-vivo rat experiments it released growth hormone with potency similar to GHRP-6, and unlike earlier secretagogues it did not raise ACTH or cortisol at comparable levels. That selectivity is the main reason it became a standard reference ligand [1].

Follow-up rat studies looked at longitudinal bone growth after repeated exposure [2] and at how somatotroph cells responded in vitro after chronic exposure in young female rats [3]. Together these papers give a useful picture of GHS-R1a pharmacology in rodent systems.

Researchers use Ipamorelin as a selective GHS-R1a tool compound in receptor binding, calcium signalling and pituitary cell secretion assays, and as a comparator in structure–activity studies of peptidyl and non-peptidyl secretagogues.

Storage and handling

Ipamorelin ships as a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder. Dry material is far more stable than material in solution, so keep it in its dry, sealed state until you need it.

• Store unopened vials of Ipamorelin at −20 °C, dry and protected from light. Let the vial reach room temperature before opening to limit condensation.
• Prepare stock solutions in a solvent suited to your assay, label them with concentration and date, and keep them at 2–8 °C for short-term use.
